Munich Night Surfing

One of my all-time favourite photoshoots! During a weekend visit to Munich I stumbled upon a small, 2-kilometre-long, man-made river named “Eisbach”. It flows through the park known as the Englischer Garten, and is a side arm of the Isar River. A man-made wave has been created on one section, which is popular among river surfers.

I ventured out at 11pm with my camera in the hope that some hardy surfers would brave the February chills for a night-time session. Fortunately some locals had a similar idea and I was able to test my night-time photography skills. It was extremely challenging to balance low light conditions with the fast shutter speed needed to capture the rapid movement of the surfers. Nearby street lighting offered just enough illumination for me to capture some impressive action.

Shot with my Canon 6D and 50mm f/1.4 USM lens. Post production in Adobe Lightroom.
