In September 2015, I managed a collaborative event between Opendesk and ShopBot at the New York Maker Faire, from initial concept to running things on the day.
The installation brought attendees together at the intersection between design and digital fabrication technologies. Visitors were able to browse a private version of the Opendesk website showcasing a collection of limited edition designs, created by independent designers from Brazil, France, England and the USA. Designs could then be purchased in flat-pack “Airfix” form at the event, after which they would be made, on-demand in a micro-factory on site right in front of the customer.
The installation received an editors choice award and raised generous funds for the independent designers whose products were featured in the limited edition collection.
